Function of ApigeninApigenin plays a neuroprotective role against excitatory toxicity and prevents calcium accumulation in neuromitochondria.Apigenin and two glucopyranosides of apigenin can play an anti-diabetic role in the body.Apigenin plays an anti-inflammatory role by inhibiting NO synthase and COX2 enzyme in macrophages and by lipopolysaccharide;
Apigenin also inhibits the production of interleukin -4.Apigenin also inhibits TNFα elevation by interfering with NF-KB transcription and potentially TNFα -induced upregulation of adhesion molecule 1.Apigenin is one of the known bioflavonoids, which can selectively induce apoptosis of cancer cells in vivo;
Like other bioflavonoids, apigenin reduces oxidative stress, induces cell cycle inhibition, increases the efficacy of liver detoxifying enzymes, and acts to some extent as an anti-inflammatory.
