Stems up to 60 cm high, tetragonal, often leafless near base. Leaves petiolate, abaxially nearly round, pilose, ovate or oblong ovate, apex obtuse or slightly obtuse, bright green above, often with purple halo, light green below, bracts mostly sessile, inflorescence corymbose panicle, many flowers dense, composed of spikelets; bracts acute, green or with purple halo, calyx bell shaped, corolla purplish red, light red to white, tubular bell shaped, two The flowers are filiform, flat, glabrous, the anthers are ovoid, the style slightly exceeds the stamens, and the lobes are subulate. The nutlets are ovoid, flowering from July to September and fruiting from October to December.
